Flying Cappuccino

This one has been around since the first cuppa, but no one ever expects it. It gets energy levels peaking faster than a caffeine boost. If you want to wake up the dead then forget the coffee and try this.

Guide lines
Ready, Steady, Go!

Set up your fake coffee with the napkin positioned to look like froth. Make sure you have a spoon with a head that won’t slide out of the coffee handle at the time of delivery. Add some cinnamon or sand to top off the froth look. Mingle with others in the canteen or on a break.

You:

Is it just me, or is the air really dry today… feel like I’m going to sneeze?

Pretend to hold back a sneeze.

Lend me your ears

For maximum effect, aim to deliver the flying cappuccino to one person in the group.

You:

Really got to sneeze…

Seal the Deal and Reveal

Fake a (dry) sneeze and, at the same time, while holding onto the long side of the spoon, gently launch your fake coffee at the person you’re speaking to. The coffee cup will be securely anchored by the spoon, causing a startled response from those in front of you.

You:

Coffee can really give you a wake up, right?

They should now be smiling, seeing that it’s not real. Show them how you set it up.

You:

I could use this napkin to blow my nose, but that would ruin my cappuccino icebreaker.

Some extra lines you can try

  • Nothing like a good cuppa to wake you up.
  • An icebreaker that gets hearts racing is nothing to sneeze at.
  • Do you take fake froth with your coffee?
Alternative ending

Set up the fake cappuccino again in front of the others. Now that everyone else knows what’s in store, try it on someone new. See if someone wants to film it on their phone without being obvious.

You:

It’s like candid camera in the office…
