Park a Number

Perspective, everyone has it. But sometimes we need to realise that perspective can be subjective and not clear to the eye. With the use of a simple piece of paper and pen, you can create a perspective changing mind puzzle.

Guide lines
Ready, Steady, Go!

Write down the following sequence on your piece of paper and show it to someone from your written down point of view: | 16 | 06 | 68 | 88 | __ | 98 |

You:

We all could use a change of perspective now and again… are you game to run some numbers?

They should be game, it doesn’t seem too difficult.

Lend me your ears

Point to the sequence, highlighting the missing number.

You:

Can you tell me what the missing number is?

It might seem a little trickier now. Throw a few clues their way to sweeten the story.

You:

These numbers make complete sense. In fact, you see them every time you drive to the mall.

Seal the Deal and Reveal

When they’re unable to give you the correct answer, simply flip the page around 180 degrees in front of their eyes.

You:

The number is obviously…?

They’ll now be able to give you the answer: 87

You:

Correct… we just need a change in perspective to see it.

Some extra lines you can try

  • When we were kids, we used to look at the world upside down all the time.
  • Don’t forget where you parked your car… in bay 87.
Alternative ending

Write up an extra number sequence for the person you showed this to – they can now try it on another person in their own time.

You:

Try it out on someone else… turn some frowns and numbers upside down.
