The Castle

The Kerrigan clan are a working class Australian family living right next to the airport - which they quite enjoy until the airport needs to expand onto their property.

They initially refuse but the Government and airport authorities stand in the way of keeping their small but much loved home. 'The Castle’, from the saying that 'every man’s home is his castle’ tells the story of how they fight to retain their house, taking their case as far as the High Court - all under the eye of the media and country.

Look out for Eric Bana’s film debut and a lot of Aussie slang and humour. Also listen out for quotes such as "Dad reckons fishing is 10% brains and 95% muscle, the rest is just good luck” and "Dad, you haven't let anyone down. I don't know what the opposite of lettin' someone down is… but you've done the opposite.”

The film celebrates eccentricity and sticking together as a family, as well as sticking to your beliefs. If you don’t stand for something then you could end up falling for anything.

The Castle makes a great icebreaker. Share this screen gem with colleagues, family or friends.
